Crowdfunding: The Race for 300k€

On April 1st, April Fool’s Day, we ran across this headline: The race for three hundred thousand Euros begins. And it is going to be done through crowdfunding. I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but I haven’t found anything to indicate that it was an elaborate April fools joke (like we put up). I’ve actually had it confirmed that it’s not.

What are they collecting the money for? Might actually be a good idea to tell you about that! It’s a movie project, Iron Sky. The movie is already made and is being edited right now.
They already have a strong community around them, which is good and gives a feeling of security. They have already managed to raise 500.000€ through it, and through other means for the initial project.

The reason for launching The 300k Race is very simple: we need to fill a gap in our funding, I’m really interested on crowdfunding. I’ve been following with constant amazement how the topic – which I was very dismissive at first – is growing bigger and bigger. The first completely crowd-financed film is already out, and it’s only a matter of time when crowdfunding becomes one of the de facto tools for funding independent films.

Their idea is, to use nine different crowdfunding services to gather all of this money. It’s a high goal, and it’s to be reached within 2 months, 1st of April to the 31st of May. I’m really glad that they added Flattr to the list of services and I hope that we can show them that we can excel at this! Are you with us?

Check out their Flattr Profile, and follow their progress on for the Movie and The Race.
You can also follow them on Twitter!
