Adding support for YouTube

Creators are uploading 72 hours of video to YouTube every minute of the day. much of it is what make the internet valuable for us all to use. Now you can easily show real appreciation to all creators on YouTube.

YouTubeJust like on Soundcloud, Vimeo, Instagram etc you just like creators on YouTube to send a microdonation to them.

We think this is a big thing. Most of the creators on YouTube never sees any money for the content they produce.

How to flattr on YouTube
1. Go to your settings page
2. Connect with YouTube (make sure your YouTube account is connected with your Google account)
3. Like videos. We love Anita Sarkeesian and her video series Feminist Frequency
4. Tell the world you’re supporting creators on YouTube. Or, if you’re a creator, that your fans can support your work.

Voilà! You are making the internet a better place for creators.

More to come
We are hard at work to enable you to flattr creators on more services. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or here to hear about it first.

  1. Is it possible to connect more than one YouTube account with my Flattr account? Looks like the answer is “no”.

  2. How do I create a link on my YouTube channel to show people my flattr erm ability.

For example the links posted above in your blog do not work as the video has vote support turned off?

I was thinking of creating a new thing and then placing that thing in the url of the add links bit of my channel using the new theme. But I have become old and slow and forgotten how to create a new thing.

    HELP?

  3. Ok so what I have done for now is to create thing using the Add to Flattr button -> https://flattr.com/submit (confussing title to me – Create new thing would mean more).

I’ve then added that to my YouTube custom links. Which means it shows up in the About box in the new themes even if not on my main page unless I swap some URLs around.

Hopefully Google will add Flattr as a “linked” social media shortly.

  4. What happens exactly when i like a vid of a creator that is not on flattr? Are those flattrs stored until they join? Are they lost?

  5. Loik: When you flattr a creator on YouTube, Soundcloud, Instagram, Github, Flickr, Vimeo, 500px or App.net that hasn’t yet signed up to Flattr that microdonation will be an unclaimed flattr.

Unclaimed flattrs are not be taken from your monthly budget, until they sign up. The month the creators signs up, is the month that flattr will be a part of your budget. The creator will then get the money on the 10th the coming month.

We don’t keep any money in the meantime as we don’t want to hold money for creators that has not said they want to accept it. We also think it’s better that creators with accounts get the money.

Awesome Thanks, very well thought through. I joined today as soon as I read that youtube is now connected – as it is the first social network I use to do so. I’m going to flattr all my favorites vids now!

  7. Hi Jan,

The most common reason for that message is that you haven’t connected your YouTube account with your Google account. Can that be the case for you?

  8. Fingers crossed this will have more impact than the Twitter thing. I imagine the difficulty though is getting people to actually link up their accounts and enable like-to-flattr…

  9. After using it until now, I’ll turn it off. It doesn’t make much sense – if I like a song do I really want to flattr the uploader (who is usually not the maker)? Often the “thumbs up” also means that something in the video is true, or nice or agreeable… but again, not necessarily something to reward the youtube channel for.

  10. Is this going to publicly reveal every video I Like on Flattr? Hmm… Could be embarrassing :D

Also, the whole “monthly budget” thing Flattr uses is bizarre. It should be a fixed amount of money per Flattr, not a fixed amount per month that gets divided between different sites. If I only Flattr one thing in a month, they get the entire monthly budget? Bizarre.

Even better, the amount should vary by the type of content ($0.50 for a video on Youtube, $0.25 for a picture on Flickr, etc.)

  11. And yeah, there definitely needs to be a way to separate Likes from Flattrs, since I will often Like things without bothering to check if the uploader is the content creator. Without this separation, we are creating a monetary incentive to spam and rip-off creators. Not cool.

  12. Unquestionably consider that which you stated.
Your favorite justification appeared to be at the web the simplest
factor to take note of. I say to you, I definitely
get annoyed while people consider worries that they just don’t recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top as neatly as outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thank you

  13. Hello, I do believe your blog could be having internet browser compatibility problems.
Whenever I look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine but
when opening in IE, it has some overlapping issues. I simply wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Aside from that, wonderful website!

  14. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and
now each time a comment is added I get four e-mails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove me from that service?
    Appreciate it!

  15. Hey! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but after reading through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Anyways, I’m definitely delighted I found it and I’ll be book-marking and
    checking back frequently!

  16. Admiring the dedication you put into your website and in depth information you provide.
It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the
same outdated rehashed information. Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS
    feeds to my Google account.

  17. When I try to connect my YouTube account Flattr requests view and manage permissions. Why would Flattr need to “manage” my videos? What does it do with that permission? I’m nervous about giving a third party mange access to me entire YouTube channel!
